The Battersea Park Road to Enlightenment

This is a page for anyone who has already read the book and wants to explore living it.

The Courses - Where are they Now?

Chapter One - Sorting your life out.

Insight Seminars UK. This was an excellent course but is now no longer available in the UK

Essence. An excellent course similar to Insight, run by the former director of Insight UK and incorpating elements of family therapy.

The Essence Foundation also has a brilliant payment scheme where you make a small down payment to secure a place... take the course and then pay as much more as you want to depending on the value that you think you have received from the course. Check them out at http://www.essence-foundation.com/

Terry Tillman - Leadership Courses.

Another former Insight Facilitator now runs courses of which he says:
"My initial business leadership seminars are 2 1/2 days. Most are custom designed. I also have been doing a few general public seminars occasionally, and large group seminars—large being 500 – 15,000..."

More info about Terry's work can be found at:

www.227company.com

Chapter Two - Tai Chi

The wonderful place where I study Tai Chi is only going to serve you if you speak French. They do some international courses, but not many.

However – if like me, you like speak French a little and would like to study Tai Chi in France then I can’t recommend this teacher’s courses more highly. There are Tai Chi courses locally to you I’m sure – but, like I said in the book, it’s not quite the same is it?If anyone knows any particularly good Tai Chi Masters in this country that they can recommend to me through personal experience then please let me know – I’ll go and see their work – and if I like the way that they work then I’ll recommend them to you.

Meanwhile the excellent web site for Artao in France is… www.artao.org

Chapter Three – Nun so Wise - Silent Retreat…

It’s amazing how freaked out people get by this idea… I’ve had journalists say to me, quite literally, ‘I could NEVER do that.’ Three days in silence with no radio, no telephone, no television, and no reading? ‘Just my own thoughts? I’d go mad.’

Isn’t that scary? That someone can be afraid of the contents of their own heads? Doesn’t that suggest that getting over this might be a good idea?! Then for those of you who consider a weekend in silence child’s play there is always a 28 day retreat. And why in a convent? Well I first went on the recommendation of a friend and now, after New Habits, I’ve visited so many convents of different kinds that it seems the obvious place to go. These are the women that are so dedicated to their spiritual path that they have given up everything else to follow it – so they know what they are doing… no messing about. Forget all your pre-conceived ideas about convents. For a journey into silence I don’t believe that you will find any better guides…

Here are two of my favourite convents –

One in Whitby, Yorkshire www.ohpwhitby.org One inTymayr, Wales www.churchinwales.org.uk/tymawr

The Buddhists offer retreat as well. You could look at … www.samyeling.org

 Chapter Four - Astrology

To Reach an Astrologer in London you can call – Richard Norris on 0207 461 9177

Otherwise go only on personal recommendation and even then please be very careful. The power of suggestion is very strong. If you think you are gullible stay away. Make your own future.

Be your own lucky star!

Chapter Five - The Inner Goddess

What they call ‘Goddess’ work is really about how we feel about ourselves as men or women. That includes our sexuality but isn’t exclusively about that.

If you feel, as I did, that you’ve never really considered what is good about being a women then this may be a workshop to go to. But it’s not for the faint-hearted.

For me there was something scary just about being in a women only circle where everyone talked about being women.

If – like me – these questions perplex you – then this workshop is run by women who embrace and celebrate their gender and can help any women (or man – they do workshops for men too) to enjoy being who they are and in the sex they are a little more. You can find their website and details of their workshops here:

www.celebrationofbeing.com

Chapter Six - Tantric Sex (This is the chapter the men read first)
This is just the best area to explore if you are very brave or are in a relationship.

Rather like chapter one there are now a range of workshops being run by all the Tantra teachers that were working together when I met them all.

The couples workshop that I took or the ‘Year long workshop’ for couples is run by John Hawkin and is now assisted by Marta Emmit. If you have a partner (has to be of the opposite sex for these workshops) what are you waiting for? Life is short and we’ll all be dead soon.

John and Marta also run a ‘Celebration’ Workshop’ which they describe as ‘For Couples and Singles at any level. This weekend is described as ‘A Mixture of Tantra and Shamanism.’ Has to be done! www.tantralaboratory.com

Now Hilary Spence (who I describe in the book and is huge fun) is taking women’s workhops assisted by Sue Newsome. She calls this work ‘Shakti Tantra’ Her website is: www.shaktitantra.co.uk

And finally John and Hilary also do work together still doing Tantra for Individuals. They have a separate website for this and that this work can be found at:www.skydancing.org.uk

Chapter Seven - Co-dependency?!

What is co-dependency? Well, in a phrase it’s trying to sort out other people instead of yourself! Makes life hard doesn’t it? Ha Ha. If you think you have this really badly then you can reach CODA at www.coda-uk.orgBut, joking aside, I do recommend the ‘12 Step Programme’ and if you know anyone who is trying to love someone who has serious drink or drug addiction (or who has this themselves) then the level of support this organisation offers is second to none..

I have not had this problem. Thank God. But I’ve seen the lives of some friends transformed – find them at www.alcholics-anonymous.org.uk If you are dealing with another kind of addiction then they will be able to find the right group for you. Another useful site for information is www.recovery.org.uk

Chapter Eight - Colonic Irrigation

You want to do this?!!! Call Linzi Deayn (featured in the book) Can put you in touch with a range of practitioners around the country. She is also a ‘Herbal Life’ distributor – so watch out. She may have changed your entire diet by the end of the phone call: 07956 502342

Chapter Nine - Rebirthing

If you want to explore this rather extraordinary therapy then you can ring Diana Roberts (featured in the book) directly… she has a list of practitioners worldwide and will also answer all your questions. She doesn’t like the internet and prefers to talk to you in person – (Radical idea!) London – 0207 834 6641

Chapter Ten - Past Lives

I certainly didn't believe in past lives at all before I went to this workshop. By the end of it I didn't know what to believe. But it moved me from hard unbeliever to confused agnostic on this issue. The two years that I've spent immersed in Tibetan Buddhism since have made me think that maybe we do go around more than once. If you are curious, skeptical or want to explore this issue for any reason then Roger is the best in the field. And if you aren't interested in this but it's all true then you have many more lifetimes in which to explore.

If you go to Roger's workshop and have extraordinary experiences - please let me know.

Chapter Eleven - The Search for the Ultimate Massage
More info to come here. But meanwhile - if you are in London - the good, straight ordinary, reliable and good massage that I end my weird experiences with is Terry Kingscote. A Neuro-Muscular Masseur that can be found at The Surgery, 7 Stanhope Mews West, London SW7. Phone 0207 835 0400 or email him at terry.kingscote@ntlworld.com

Chapter Twelve - Saying Fuck with Style - Angry?
The Anger workshop that I sampled is no longer run by Soizic but by her former assistant Ruth Morris - They don't have a website yet - but they are still running regular workshops. If you know someone who suffers either with anger that bursts out of control or someone who has anger that is bottled up and suppressed - either will enjoy this workshop. Any questions on courses you can ring Ruth directly on 0208 445 7515. UK only at this time.

Chapter Thirteen - Neuro Linguistic Programming
Mmm, not sure about Bandler and his lads. The course is expensive and to get the 'qualification' all you have to do is stay in the room. I would recomment looking around carefully before choosing an NLP course and listening to friend's word of mouth reports. The association for NLP is on www.anlp.org - they list all members without giving recommendations.

Chapter Fourteen - Angels, spirits and the unseen world?

William Bloom is still running workshops on many subjects. You can visit his site at www.williambloom.com
