Much Ado Bookshop

8 West Street
East Sussex.
BN26 5UX

Owners Cate Olson and Nash Robbins.  Friendly staff person - Penny.
An 'Independent Bookshop of the Year' - They do a range of interesting events - and they also keep chickens.
"It's warm, welcoming, erudite, broad-ranging and close to some amazing walks so I can combine my two favourite pastimes. The owners are knowledgeable and enthusiastic, they've got both new and second hand stock to browse through. They also host workshops, talks, and sell their own type of notebook made with the covers of beautiful old books that are too damaged to sell. Could you ask for anything more from a bookshop."
Recommendation by Piers Moore Ede.
"Perhaps the most beautiful bookshop I have ever shopped in is the Much Ado Bookshop in Alfriston. Imagine the perfect village bookshop, add some slices of cake and a few chickens and you have the extraordinary place that Cate and Nash have created in this tranquil part of East Sussex. It is worth planning a day trip just to visit the shop as you could easily lose hours in there."
Recommendation by Scott Pack.
'As good as it gets.'  Phil Boakes.
'Visited this wonderful bookshop myself today - (19th Feb 2011) It's almost like a book house with several rooms upstairs and the new and second-hand books enticingly displayed together.  They have a special collection of books from the Bloomsbury set - (that is the authors not the publishers) and a cosy little corner for children that made me want to huddle down into it.  Also one of the only bookshops I've ever visited where - instead of me buying a book to support them - they gave me a book.  Alfriston is the most beautiful village to visit if you've never been there.  Or go just to visit this shop.' Isabel.
